The Association was formed under the leadership of Mr Thum Soon Boon, building on the foundation of the Mountbatten Guzheng Performing Group which has been active since 1993. We are the first Guzheng association in Singapore, and intends to carry out a wide range of activities to promote the art of Guzheng, including concerts and other exchange forums, appealing to all Guzheng lovers and supporters. To date, the group has organized and participated in numerous public concerts, and organized many music recitals and seminars. The group has also won numerous individual and group category awards in the annual national Chinese music instrument competitions. Other milestones include organizing the first ever concert in Singapore involving one hundred Guzheng at the Botanical Gardens – Grandioso of Hundred Guzheng in June 2000, and participating in The 1st Asian Zither Festival held in Vietnam in Sept 2000. On 10 Aug 2003, Oceanic Melody was held at the Singapore Conference Hall to commemorate the forming of Blue Ocean Guzheng Association. In Nov 2004, we participated at the Gizheng Concert in Jakarta. Guzheng Mega Concert Blue Ocean Guzheng Association will present "Grandioso of Hundred Guzhengs - 2006" on Sunday June 18 2006 at 5.30pm at the Botanical Gardens. The 90 min concert on the newly-renovated Shaw Foundations Symphony Stage will feature more than 100 performers. This is the second time since 2000 a concert is organized on such a grand scale. Guest performers from Mongolia and Indonesia will be invited to perform with the ensemble. Mongolian Yatga musician Ms Otgontuya will perform "Concerto for Yatga" and Morin Khuur musician Mr Batsaikhan will perform "The Gobi Desert Deep in My Heart". Mr Batsaikhan will also perform a solo piece "The Rhythm of Oirats". "Musings of Borobudur" will be performed by Ms Eni Agustien, an Indonesian musician. Guzheng pieces will include traditional and local pieces, some composed by renowned composer Prof Xu Xiao Lin from China's Conservatory of Music. Prof Xu will also be the Honorary Music Director of this concert The audience can look forward to zither music from different cultures performed on the same stage, while basking in nature's beauty. 巨型古筝音乐会 蓝海洋古筝协会将于2006年6月18日（星期日）下午5.30时，假植物园的邵氏基金交响乐舞台举办《弦吟指飞百筝鸣2006》. 这是本协会自2000年以来，第二次在植物园举办百人古筝演奏会。届时，来自海外客卿演奏家: 蒙古的马头琴、蒙古筝和印尼传统爪哇琴音乐演奏家，将与蓝海洋古筝协会团员和巴耶礼峇美以美女子中、小学古筝团所组成的100多名筝手同台演出，呈献一场时而婆娑于南洋，呈现一场时而婆娑于南洋, 原始又幽深的热带风情－《印尼爪哇琴之音》; 时而充满西域神秘的情调《库尔班节日印象》；或有如千军万马驰骋于宽阔无边的蒙古草原上－《赛马》。 这场气势澎湃、雄伟壮观的古筝演奏会《弦吟指飞百筝鸣2006》。节目除了多首雅俗共赏的传统和现代筝曲外，重点节目将是在我国首演的马头琴协奏曲- 《我心深处…戈壁大沙漠》、《婆罗浮屠随想》、《蒙古筝协奏曲》。此外，还特约中国音乐学院作曲家徐晓林为三位海外客卿演奏家们与百筝的协奏编写一首的谢幕曲。 《弦吟指飞百筝鸣2006》是一场不收费的公益性演出。欢迎广大的观众们在此时此刻, 与我们共享在这一片绿意盎然的大自然怀抱中，黄昏的凉风习习，伴随斑斓艳丽的夕阳，尽享旋律优美的古筝音乐，品尝异地绮丽多姿的古筝文化盛宴。

EXPRESSION
Three days of camping in a temple is finally over, but our feelings are mixed! Blue Ocean Guzheng Association had the rare honour of co-organising "Expression – Hong San See Guzheng Concert" with Singapore Lam Ann Association and Dharma Drum Singapore on 18 Dec 05. The free concert received overwhelming support from the public, and an additional show was added on 17 Dec 05. A rehearsal was held on Fri to allow the performers to get used to the location. The weather on both days was cool, with late afternoon showers ending just minutes before the concerts commenced. However, the showers did not douse the performers’ enthusiasm and instead reinforced their determination to present their beautiful music to the audience. Moments before the concerts commenced, the patter of rain drops
faded away as if waiting to listen to the musical story we were about
to present. The first piece《天黑黑》gently synchronized with the last
of the rain, bringing forth the evening sky full of shining stars.
《秋思》reflected the luminous full moon, invoking the feeling of remembrance.
The captivating melodies of《康定情歌》and《彝族舞曲》were well executed by
the performers. The finale pieces《梅花三弄》 This successful performance not only brought the joy of guzheng music to all but also achieved our grand aim….. to present to the public a performance in the open courtyard of a national monument in a subtle attempt to imprint in their minds the presence of rich culture in Singapore. The meticulous introduction of the history of Hong San See Temple by the compere made us all feel like we are a part of its 100-year history. More importantly, we will all have a part in maintaining the longevity of this history. Although our performance is over, our memories will remain……

《美 “庙” 琴声》 您曾在特殊的地方欣赏过美妙的音乐吗？那一定给您留下深刻的印象吧？我们蓝海洋古箏协会就很荣幸地和南安会馆及新加坡法鼓山佛学会，在有百多年历史的凤山寺举办了一场古筝音乐会《抒怀》。12月16日的彩排，12月17日的第一场演出以及12月18日的第二场演出，不仅让众多的观众欣赏到我们的美“庙”琴声，也让我们演出者感受了不一样的舞台经验，让我们体会到作为文化传播者的自豪，真是受益匪浅。 那几天天气阴凉, 天空不时还飘起小雨, 但它却没有冲走我们对傍晚演出的期待，我们只想尽全力弹拨出我们心中的美妙音乐。 演出开始时,连雨点都渐渐地停下脚步聆听我们所要讲述的音乐故事。首先是三重奏《天黑黑》，琴声叮咚告诉大家天色已暗了,星星也亮了。倦鸟归巢，离人归家，到处呈现一片安宁的景象；《秋思》借着十五的圆月述说思念的伤感；《康定情歌》和《彝族舞曲》是观众耳熟能详的，让他们听出了耳油……最后两首合奏曲《梅花三弄》 这次的演出成功,不光是我们美妙的音乐吸引了众人，还有主办者组织得力，宣传到位。,我们特意选择在凤山寺的露天前院演奏，主要是要吸引人群, 利用这个机会向大家介绍咱们的文化古迹。通过这个方式，主办单位提高了公众珍惜和爱护文化古迹的意识，把有关它的历史和文化故事代代传颂下去。电台名嘴王帝璁以轻松而亲切的方式讲述古寺的历史，确实令观众印象深刻，达到了宣传教育的目的。而令我留下最深刻印象的是他告诉我们，演奏員这次的演出将载入庙史，成为凤山寺历史的一部份，而这历史的新页辉煌与否居然就决定在我们的指间。哇！大家听了都感到一股暖流直涌心头。 演出已经完毕了，但我相信我们在这特殊的舞台上所创造出的悦耳琴声将跟随许多观众回家，将他们未来的生活点缀得更加亮丽；而那一份走入历史的，将永远散发着幽香……

"Dan Tranh Melody" successfully organized by Blue Ocean Guzheng Association Blue Ocean Guzheng Association has been very passionate about the Chinese instrument, Guzheng. On 21st November 2004, the Vietnamese Guzheng concert was held at the Esplanade Recital Studio and was attended by many Guzheng music enthusiasts. The performance was indeed a great success. The response from the public was very satisfying. There were bilingual compares, great music presentations, artistic decorations that gave audience a Vietnamese sensation, etc. Even the little Vietnamese handicrafts and Vietnamese Guzheng music CDs and VCDs were all sold out. We were also glad to receive the support and message of the Vietnamese ambassador to Singapore Dr Duong Van Quang. In the Guzheng family, the Vietnamese zither is very unique and special. At the performance, Ms Nguyen Thanh Thuy skillfully expressed the specialty of the zither.. The zither produced fantastic musical notes which captivated and mesmerized all the audience. We now enclose a few photos to share with those who had missed the concert. |
蓝海洋古筝协会主办 蓝海洋古筝协会就是本着对筝家族的热爱与关怀，放诸四海，11月21日于滨海艺术中心与我国筝界的朋友们一同分享由越南筝演奏家阮清水老师所呈现的两场越南筝独奏会《筝，逸、静》，已完满成功举行。 这次的演奏会反映热烈，现场在中英报幕、音乐、字画屏幕、灯光与布置气氛下，散发出浓浓的越南风情。现场还摆卖了许多小小越南筝手工艺品与越南筝CD与VCD都给观众抢购一空。难得的是，我们还受到越南驻新大使杨文广医生的献词与祝贺。 越南筝在筝的家族里可说是一朵夺目的奇葩。当晚，阮老师充分发挥了越南筝其明亮鲜艳的音色，旖旎委婉的按滑音的特点，时而安逸、恬静淡雅；时而亮丽、夺目耀人，紧扣人心弦，叫观众沉迷陶醉。现附上数张现场照片与错过的朋友一起分享。 |

In line with our main objectives to continuously interact, learn and share with other Guzheng groups, a group of 20 from Oceanic Melody Guzheng Ensemble led by Blue Ocean Guzheng Association was honored to be invited by Jakarta's Panda Guzheng Ensemble president, Ms Eni Agustien, to perform at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. We presented two repertoires, <Shan Xi Melody> by Oceanic Melody Guzheng Ensemble, and <Qin Sang Xu> solo by Mr Thum Soon Boon accompanied by Oceanic Melody Guzheng Ensemble. That evening, the audience dressed up glamorously and it was practically full-house. The items in the concert were appealing, including many melodious Guzheng solo repertoires presented by Ms Eni and her students. Some of the interesting performances of the evening include <Dance of the Yi Tribe> accompanied by dancers and the drum, <Sing Sing So> and <Rain>, where the Guzheng ensemble was accompanied by percussion instruments. Ms Nguyen Thanh Thuy had the atmosphere in the concert hall changed when she impressed the audience with the piece <Chou>, giving the audience deep thoughts about this magnificent Vietnamese piece. She later gave the audience another different feeling when she played <Melody in Five Tones>, accompanied by hand drums performed by Oceanic Melody Guzheng Ensemble's Guo Jing Song and Edinna Low Hui Ying. What was worth mentioning was the piece <Sangkuriang> performed with the Guzheng, electronic keyboard and harp. With its fast tempo and the three teachers' skillful performance, the audience gave their loudest applause. At the finale, Mr. Thum conducted an ensemble of 50 performers from Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam, playing the piece <Xiao Ao Jiang Hu>, pushing the atmosphere to its climax. In closing, Modern Kawai chairperson Ms Elisabeth S.H expressed her thanks to all sponsors and the special invited guests and backstage crew. 蓝海洋古筝协会率领《海韵筝团》受邀参加印尼椰加达《古筝音乐会》成功举办。 蓝海洋古筝协会本着交流、学习与分享的宗旨，率领了＜海韵筝团＞一行20人在Modern Kawai Music School与印尼＜熊猫古筝团＞(English: Panda Guzheng Ensemble) 总监，杨恩妮老师的邀请下，受邀在雅加达艺术宫Gedung Kesenian Jakarta 《古筝音乐会》上呈献了两首筝曲：1，筝团合奏《山西调》 2，谭春文独奏，筝团伴奏《秦桑曲》。 当晚，音乐会空前热烈，观众盛装赴会，座无虚席。音乐会的节目丰富，包挂多首杨恩妮师生独奏的多首动听筝曲；还有形式多样的琵琶与舞蹈《彝族舞曲》、古筝与声乐《雨》、《星星嗦》；柔和典雅的西乐合奏；越南筝阮清水独奏《愁》，曲调深沉，颤动了观众内心深处，令人深思；立刻叫人对越南筝又耳目一新的是由海韵筝团的郭锦松与刘惠营为阮老师手鼓伴奏《五音曲》。值得一提的是由杨恩妮老师与键盘、竖琴三重奏的爵士风格的《Sangkuriang》。乐曲欢快的节奏，在三位老师精湛的演奏技术与表演下，观众报以最热烈的掌声。 在音乐会结束之前，谭春文指挥了50人组成的联合大乐团《笑傲江湖》将演出气氛推上另一高潮。Mordern Kawai 董事长 Elisabeth S.H.在结束前为赞助单位UTAMA ART、参与演出的受邀佳宾与工作委员们一一献花致谢。超过两小时的音乐会就在中国驻印尼大使的祝贺下，徐徐落幕。 |
