











Total Quality Is a Journey Towards Continuous
Improvement And Success.Thisjourney started when a group of dedicated, concerned,
knowledgeable and enthusiastic professionals and academicians from various walks of life
met at Singapore Institute of Management, early 1993, to discuss the possibility of joining
together and forming an Interest Group for the practitioners, leaders and followers of the
Total Quality Management (TQM) culture in Singapore. The group became known as the Total
Quality Management Group (TQMG).
My deep and passionate involvement with the group and its activities took me on a wonderful
voyage of learning, sharing knowledge and ideas and a solemn understanding and appreciation
of the concepts, principles and practices of Total Quality Management. It gives me a total
satisfaction in sharing these ideas and concepts with those who are just embarking, or have
already embarked, on this extraordinary journey of making quality our way of life.
The International Standards Organisation (ISO) is a global institution which has taken over a task of formulating standards for the assurance, control and management
of quality, for universal application, in any industry - service and/or manufacturing. What are these standards? What do we mean by Auditing and who does the Auditing?
These are some of the issues that will be highlighted in these pages.
Effort will be made in creating an awareness and understanding of the aims, objectives and the work and activities of the Total
Quality Management Group (TQMG), of the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) which has set for itself and its members an ambitious
