Khahori, in Sindhi, are the ascetics who wander about in the mountains and in waste lands searching for a kind of wild fruit which they collect and which is their only means of subsistence.

As a young man, Shah Abdul latif Bhitai...click wandered along with these ascetics or jogis, as they are known in Sindhi. He was in their company for about three years, which gave him an opportunity to study, and even adopt, their way of live. He admired their frugal eating habits and their simple, threadbare clothing. He also adored their night vigils, their tearful eyes, their renunciation and their constant rememberance and longing for their Creator, the Almighty God. These ascetics, took pleasure in facing the hardships of life and suffering in pain. They slept on dusty, stony grounds, avoiding public gaze and mixing with ordinary people. They were just like the blind and deaf to the worldly ways and demands.

In this Sur...click Bhitai records his observations, that he has experienced so closely, about the mode of ascetics' life. He also tells us, in melodious rhythm, about the places that he has visited in the company of these jogis. He mentions about places such as, Ganjo Takar (Bald Mountain), in the south of Hyderabad, and Lahut. Both these places are important to these ascetics on their spiritual journey in the quest for the truth.

The forest fruit that they seek is the symbol of the search for Reality. Ganjo Takkar is the spiritual path to be taken in this search. Lahut, is their destination, a glimpse of Reality.
