Two poems of Sindhi poets Faiz Pirzado and Shah Mohammad Pirzado are illustrating the transformation
of Karachi. Written in Sindhi and published in daily newspaper "The Dawn" Karachi.
From the beauty parlor of this city
These tall majestic buildings
By : Faiz Pirzado
"These neon signs, these colorful billboards
Are the loud makeup of this industrial city,
The amusement spots here
Are graveyards of our hearts desire
In the shopping centers here
Our needs are kept imprisoned
The girls of this city
Go about with sorrow and desire in their purses
And beg for a little bit of love
In the empty bowls of their eyes
Cosmetic beauty is costlier
And hard labor cheap
Love in the city comes with money
In this city we have our head offices
This city, like a beautiful show piece
Is ours only to look at not to use.
Are just the name of bus stops for us
In this city people seems to be lost
And everybody is searching for the other
The people here keep their own address in their wallets
In this city the rupee is an agent for the dollar
The name of this city is Karachi."

We went to the eid -gah
We are those
The second poem is by Shah Mohamad Pirzado
"We have celebrated Eid
Yes we have celebrated Eid
We have new clothes to wear
We have perfume to put on
We have given eidi to children
And we have been considerate of neighbors too.
But the new clothes have no color
Instead of perfume we have sprinkled desolation
For eidi we have distributed fear
We have paid a visit to neighbors in mourning
We have celebrated Eid.
We did our religious duty
We turned our faces to god
We wished everybody Eid mubarak
In the eid-gah all doors were closed
We turned our faces to God
Under the stern eyes of the rangers
We did our religious duty
Looking everywhere from the corners our eyes
when we said Eid mubarak
Everybody heard the sound of sobbing
We have celebrated Eid.
That whoever speaks for us
Is not one of us
Whoever speaks against us
Is not one of us
If you ask us
Then we have celebrated Eid."

DON'T AWAKEN THEM
"Stars
Do not wishper
Remain quiet
Remain in guard
Do not let the sun
Come here
By any means
Is of sick
Do not disturb them
In their sleep."
