I take great pride in being amongst the founders of the Group and the pioneer Executive Committee member, with the role and responsiblity of a Vice President. I am also proud and honoured to have served and lead the group, in its formative years,
as its first elected President from 1994 to 1996.
The Total Quality Management Group (TQMG) was formed in 1993 in response to the considerable interest shown by management professionals in Singapore towards the
world-wide spread of the philosophy of Total Quality Management (TQM)...click. At the invitation of the Membership Department of the
Singapore Institute of Management (SIM)...click, some fifteen professionals, academicians, consultants, and enthusiasts in the theory
and practice of TQM, met at the SIM's Namly Avenue campus, to debate and thrash out the strategy for the formation of an interest group for the members of SIM, concerned primarily with
the concept, principles and practices of TQM. At the end of extensive meetings, spread over a period of few weeks, the Group, known as the Total Quality Management Group (TQMG) was formed.
Constitution for the new group was drafted, discussed and adopted, together with its vision and mission statements, set of realistic objectives, and a programme for various activities....click.
An interim, caretaker Executive Committee...click, was inaugurated, as a pioneer group of dedicated, motivated and interested quality practitioners and enthusiasts, actively involved in the emancipation and establishment
of TQM philosophy throughout the length and breadth of Singapore, and in every facet of human endeavour - be it in services, health, transport, manufacturing, and retail, or marketing, education and human resource development.
