We are all motivated to exercise by many reasons, and at the top of the list is - to look good. Looking good can be different things to different people. For ladies, it is generally about getting rid of flabby arms, hip, thighs and tummy. For guys, the typical goals is to achieve a good v-shape upper body, defined chest and toned abdominals. Both genders desire overall slimmer built. In order to attain such goals,

  1. One need to lose fat all over the body to achieve a lean body. There is no way to make one part of the body smaller than the rest (this must have been said a million times but still people don't get it). To do that, we must engage in strenuous physical activities which will involve as many large muscle groups (e.g. cardio exercises and natural kinetic exercises) as possible to maximise calorie expenditure. On top of this, follow diet strategies (e.g. eat-on-demand) to create calorie deficit and increase metabolism. These are best done on daily basis to have great results.
  2. To make a particular bodypart stand out and reshape the body's overall appearance, it can be done through selected resistance training exercises and proper reps scheme to achieve muscular growth (hypertrophy). The best reps scheme for most exercises is between 6-12 reps with a moderately heavy weights. Some suggested exercises for selected muscle groups are:
    • To have wider shoulders, concentrate on a lot of overhead pushing exercises like military and dumbbell shoulder presses
    • To have a bigger chest, concentrate on bench presses, dumbbell chest presses and dipping exercises
    • To have a V-shape muscular back, work on chin ups, various rowing exercises and pulldowns.
    • To have more muscular thighs, work hard on squats and lunges
    • To have bigger or toned arms, work hard on the big muscle groups mentioned above and do 1-2 arms specific exercises like barbell curls and pushdowns.
    • To have abs muscles, do crunches, leg raises etc.

Assuming you follow our advises and programs religiously and have attained a great body, is that enough to make heads turn? Not quite yet.

Once you have attained a good physique, you may want to flaunt your new found body (if vanity is not your cup of tea here, then we say sorry here). Unless you are at the beach, most of the time you will be covered up with casual or working clothes. Do you know if you that wearing proper outfit and proper color matching are just as important as working out and eating right? While you may have a great body, a wrong choice of outfit can really ruin your physical appearance. What is the whole point if you cannot effectively show your best and hide your weakness? Most of us are poor at best when it comes to clothes selection. How many times can you find yourself giggling or criticising others for this kind of mistakes? I hope you are not a victim yourself!

While we are the exercise and nutrition experts good at helping people transform their bodies, we can do very little to teach our client how best to show case their new shapes. For that, we leave it to the real experts and it seems that nobody can do the job better than one of the prettiest woman in the world, Ms Audrey Quek. For those who remember, she is former Ms Singapore World. Audrey is now sharing her previously well-kept secrets to her own beauty through her personal image consultancy services. She can teach you about figure analysis, color selection, makeup, shopping for right clothes, presenting yourself etc. No matter you are a guy wanting to be a James Bond lookalike or a gal wanting to look like cover model, she has the answers for you. She can be contacted at audrey@audreyquek.com. Her website is www.audreyquek.com.

We are not saying you can be beauty queen or manhunt winner, but you can be sure you will look many times better and outshine most people around you with her help.
